Week 13-Comprehension of ELLs

Taking a look at the info and videos provided this week I got a much better idea of where the student I worked with is coming from. Students that are ELLs possess a great challenge in learning. They want to do just as well as their native English speaking classmates but do not always have the ability to do so. Teachers have a hard task in which they need to bring students that are ELLs to this level. Helping students to become bilingual; fluent in both their native language and English is a challenge and does not have to be the main goal. Rather, it is important for students to succeed in the English language that is mainly used in their school, country, and eventually in their careers. Working with parents is a very important factor when teaching ELLs. Parents are an essential partner just as much as the teacher and child themselves. Week 12-technology integration

Technology is a tool that has advanced in the past many years and has greatly impacted the education world. Students have opportunities in learning that they never had before. There is a wide range of technological tools that can assist all kinds of students in their education experience from computers, hand-held devices, cameras and smartboards. When students use technology they can suddenly collaborate with peers while working on real life problems. This is beneficial to social learning and cognitive development. Students can also present their work in a way they could have never done before. Student can use many different sources and devices to present written projects, slides, videos and other interesting links. I would use technology in my literacy instruction through the use of many helpful sites. One such site is the ipad app Word Mover. Week 9-QRI5 and DIBELS

QRI5 : The Qualitative Reading Inventory-5 is an assessment tools used to identify the reading level of students. This assessment is an individual based test that identifies specific areas in which a student may struggle. The assessment includes word lists that according to grade level in which the student is required to read through a list of words and the examiner records the results. Included int he QRI-5 is a few passages each divided according to grade level. Students are required to read through the passage and prove their comprehension. This is done through retelling, general or specific questions, look-backs, and think-aloud. Students are placed on a certain level based on the testing results-independent level, instructional level, or frustration level. The QRI-5 is a thorough examination in which students can be accurately assessed and then assisted in any area of need.
